Weekend Project

Last fall over a couple of days we tore out our old sinking concrete steps, prepped for the deck,  and constructed a 6 x 24 foot deck in the cut out of our ranch style home. When we planned our front deck I knew I wanted an "L" shaped bench/sectional to sit on out there.  Out front is where my kids play basketball (a poured concrete pad is in the works) so I wanted someplace I could sit, read, and watch them play.

I had my husband go by our local elevator and get permission to have some pallets that the feed comes on. Six pallets and three hours later and my design became a reality. We cut three pallets in half, about 20 inches deep, stacked and screwed those three pallets together. Half way done 😀. The last three we cut one corner out creating an "L" shape, stacked and screwed those three pallets together. Once that was done we moved the two pieces to the front deck and applied bracing boards on the back to keep the two pieces together. Two boys at home and three nephews next door I wanted to make sure everything stayed together when the jumping, running and leaping, or whatever else five boys can think of started.

We have one final step to complete, a cushion with a fun fabric that will add color and comfort to the project. My husband took down the measurements to utilized a local business that makes tarps, does upholstery, and other things.

I love warm weather, now I'm really excited to sit outside.
