Small Changes

I have missed a couple of days, with Easter and my oldest, Andrew, home. Now it is time to get back on track with everything. My husband and I have been working hard and making adjustments over the past several years to to fit and healthy. Not huge overnight adjustments, small ones that have made big differences in our lives. We started with one very simple change, either cutting down or eliminating pop for our diet. This was easy for me I was a half to full can maybe twice a week pop drinker. My husband, on the other hand, was a two or three a day pop drinker.

The next change was a little harder. You know how your dishes come with the big, what, 12-13 inch plates; we switched to the smaller 8 inch plate and took the big ones out of the cabinet all together. It's funny how much closer we watch the amount of food we are taking and how many times we go back after that.

After that came the switch to our morning routine. We started getting up a half hour earlier and working out together. This was tough for me. I am not a morning person and I like my sleep, but we started to feel better and even miss our workouts if we skipped.

We still work hard at it everyday and have made other changes as well. Eating a "cleaner" diet (which works better with my celiacs), adding in walks or other exercises during the day, logging our food intake and exercise into an app we like, and our latest addiction is our Fitbits to track how well we are doing.  After four dedicated years for myself I have lost and kept off 30 pounds and dropped close to four pant sizes. The best part, my kids see the difference and like to get in on being fit, asking questions about what exercises we are doing, and what's healthy for us.  Now we aren't completely healthy all the time, we enjoy pizza and sweets too much for that, but the trick I think is, to find things you enjoy and make it easier for you.
