Making time

It seems that we have a summer bug roaming around our house. While it began the week following Memorial weekend it is slowly making its rounds. I find it curious that after a weekend of eating until we are overfull, and foods that we don't usually feast on, with little to no exercise we are experiencing a bout of sinus and stomach issues in our house.

I have a quote from Robin Sharma on my desk at work that says "If you don't make time for exercise, you'll probably have to make time for illness."  Now I don't believe that it works quite as fast as enjoying your weekend to sick on Monday.  I am noticing a pattern between our "cheat" weekends and when we follow our regular schedule. It seems that when we are on our regular routine, which includes regular exercise and eating pretty healthy, my family doesn't just feel better, we aren't complaining about the sniffles, having upset stomachs, or "feeling like crap" (my hubbys favorite phrase).

Yet, when we "cheat" or skip a workout to sleep in, a couple things tend to happen. One, our exercise and diet follows the rule of going hand in hand. If we cheat on the meal we also tend to skip the workout and vise versa. Two, when we do eat outside our normal habits and skip workouts we do feel, well, awful. We feel sluggish, tired, moody, and less tolerable of each other.

If knowledge is power, I'm going to take into consideration Robin Sharmas words.
