Moments

This last weekend was our towns graduation and it makes me think back.  Do you remember being a kid. You know when life was easy. Ok so when we were kids life didn't seem easy. We had the laws we didn't know much about, school rules, grandmas rules, and moms rules. We had restrictions and curfews, study time and bedtimes. All the while wishing that childhood and adolescence would rush by so we could be our own boss and never have to wash dishes again since you'd eat off paper plates, throw away plastic bowls, and use plastic silverware.

Then that time comes and your 18 graduating high school and ready to start the next phase of your life. At first it is complete bliss. Like you're getting away with something. And reality hits. No one is there to make sure you get up, get fed, and out the door on time. There's no homemade cookies or snacks when you get home and mom isn't starting supper. No one is checking up on you for homework or chores.

Time passes, an amount of which is unique to each of us. You have to find a job, one with insurance and benefits. Maybe you start a family. You have to pay bills and the taxes your parents complained about. You begin to realize that your back to following the law of the land, work rules, family rules, and adding in setting an example for your kids. There are days when you long for the less responsible days of your youth. When you could sleep till noon and run free in the summer.

We rush through life wishing for what we think is going to be the easier life. Missing the small moments that we later discover were special moments. Life passes, changes, evolves to a different type of hard. We have to take time to enjoy the moments, the present, the things we take for granted.  Good luck to the graduates of all ages, best wishes for your futures, and remember to live each day in the moment even the hard ones.
